Chapter 5: Six?
“What happened?” Sam asked.
“Are you ok? You smell like ashes and fire, ” Veronica said.
“Oh. I just got a little bit burnt, ” I said.
“A little bit?” Sam stares at me like I was joking.
“Yeah, I fought a monster that made a mountain look like a slice of pizza. I think it was called Alcomizonianyestercopinaying, ” I said. Sam and Veronica both gasped at the word Alcomizonianyestercopinaying.
“What? ” I asked.
“Did you, uh, kill it? ” Sam asked.
“Uh, I think, why?” I replied.
“Because if you killed it, you will earn the power luck and the shield power, though the luck can only happen once. So if you are in danger, the luck power will use itself, but it can only happen once. The last person who had the luck power was, um … About one hundred-sixteen years ago. On the other hand, the shield power is like a normal power,” Veronica said.
“So, you are saying I have six powers right now?” I questioned.
“Yes, ” Sam replied.
“Ok, tomorrow's free-for-all, so let's just practice for that, ” I said.
******
“Today, we are changing free-for-all to championships! I know, we haven’t done this in a long time so I will explain the rules. First, a person will verse against another person. Whoever wins that round will go against another person who won the first fight, and so on. The person who wins will earn a large cash reward, a magical weapon, and one secret power. Remember the rules. DO NOT USE ANY MAGICAL WEAPON, ONLY THE WEAPON ARMORY STUFF AND YOUR POWERS. NO POWER DRAINING ALLOWED. Good luck!”
“Great, ” I muttered.
“Oh, my gods. This is going to be hard, ” Veronica stumbled over her feet, but caught herself.
“Definitely, ” Sam agreed. We all stared at the armory where kids were rummaging through the tools for battle.
“Quick, or else there will be none left for us!” Sam said, and he scurried off. We followed behind looking for the right tools we needed for the battle.
A huge siren rang in our ears, “Five minutes until championships!”
After spending four minutes finding the right tools, I decided I would go with the armor. Sam was packed with armor, a knife at his side, a helmet, speed shoes, and the last laser glove shooter. On the other hand, Veronica had armor and some explosion thingy ma jiggy and an extending sword. Everybody stared at me as if I was from the 1800s, from just having armor.
“Kids, position for battle! You will have 30 seconds to come to the main arena for battle, 30, 29, 28, 27, ” the siren blared again. I quickly ran to the main arena and found Sam and Veronica, all prepared.
“You ready?” Sam asked.
“Yep, ” Veronica said.
“As ready as I'll ever be, ” I said.
“We will put you with partners to battle,” the siren said. I got with this Green-House guy, and he said his name was Elios Gaxeon. Huh, people's names are so weird these days. We get put in seats in the arena. Seats IOZH-823 and IOZH-824. The arena had at least 200,000 seats.
“In this battle, people are known for gaining at least one power,” a girl behind me says.
“A-1 and A-2 come up to fight!” A girl and a boy went to the middle of the arena and shook hands.
“Three, two, one, FIGHT!” The boy instantly teleported behind the girl and tried to stab her with a poisoned sword. The girl activated her shield power and attempted to hit him with her enchanted bow. The boy teleported a second before the arrow hit him. Unfortunately, the boy teleported inside the shield and stabbed her in the back.
The siren said, “Yerenov Algerm wins the battle!”
“Why is the girl not dead?” I asked Elios.
“First time here?” he asked. I nodded my head.
“There is an enchantment that doesn’t let people die when they get stabbed or anything about how they lost,” Elios said. Time sped by until it was our turn.
“Good luck, Chris, you will need it. People know me for beating a lot of people.” Elios said.
“Oh, you will see, Elios, ” I responded.
We shook hands, and the crowd started chanting, “Elios! Elios! Elios! Go!”
“Three, two, one, FIGHT!” Elios advanced on me. He teleported behind my back when I was about to punch him. He was about to hit me with his poisoned sword, but I ignited with fire, and his sword turned to ashes.
“Curse you!” Elios screamed. He retreated and flew in the air. He took out his bow and aimed it right at me. “Good game,” He said. He let go, and the arrow came speeding towards me. I quickly threw a fireball at it, and it exploded with flames. I then thought of a crazy idea. Duplication. I duplicated myself ten times, and Elios got confused.
“How many powers do you have?”
“Much more than you think, ” I replied. He shot ten arrows at each of me. I used my shield as protection.
“Humph, five powers, ” Elios sneered.
“Six, ” I corrected him.
“Fine. No one ever has escaped from this power. Laser, ” Elios said.
“We will see about that, ” I responded. He shot some laser at the ten of us, and we all caught on fire. Well, nine of us caught on fire. I wasn’t there when he tried to hit me with his laser. I was behind him. I shot a couple of fireballs at him, and he started burning.
“Chris Flame wins the battle!”
“HEY! That’s not fair, ” Elios protested. The people stopped chanting.
“You said you are the best, ” I shrugged.
“I still am. I just didn’t do my best,” Elios mumbled.
I snorted, “Yeah, right.” I walked to the winning side of the arena and sat next to a boy.
“Good job, Chris. No one has ever beaten Elios,” the boy said.
“Yeah, but I beat the Alcomizonianyestercopinaying.” He stared at me in shock.
“No way, ” the boy said.
“Yes, and are you, Max?” He nodded slightly.
“Matthew Fang wins the battle!” The siren rang. After 20 minutes, we had a break. It was not fair because the first people who fought got an hour of rest.
“Elios was so hard to beat. How did Chris beat him?” All the kids would say.
“Chris! How did you beat Elios?” Sam came running behind me.
“You know me, ” I responded.
“Sheesh, ” Sam said. I looked around.
“Uh, ” I began.
“Talking with other people, ” he said, reading my mind.
“Hey, do you have mind-reading power or something?” I ask Sam.
“I wish,” Sam replied.
“Did you get any power?” I asked.
“Didn’t you see?” Sam said, grinning. I could tell by the way he was smiling.
“What did you get?”
“Oh, the Teleportation power. Veronica got the Speed Power, ” Sam said.
I smiled at him and said, “Nice.”
“You didn’t get any power, ” Sam said, feeling sad for me.
“No need for one.”
Veronica walked up to us. “Good job, ” She said, slapping me on the back.
“THREE MINUTES UNTIL THE NEXT BATTLE STARTS!”
“Scared?” I asked.
“No,” they both said at the same time.
“Huh, then we must not lose,” I said. “ Let's go to the arena before we are late.”
“Fine with me,” Sam said. We walked and chit-chatted about what would happen if we won.
“Kids, position for battle! You will have 30 seconds to come to the main arena for battle, 30, 29, 28, 27,” the siren blared. I was seated in a chair with a girl.
“Gonna tell me your name?” She asked.
“Chris Flame, ” I answered.
“The Elios beater?” She seemed stunned, “I am going to lose.”
“You won’t if you try, but, ” I said.
“Anyway, my name is Grace Powthor,” Grace said.
“Cool,” I said. I then looked at my seat. B-1 and B-2. Lucky.
“B-1 and B-2?!” Grace practically screamed.
“Jason Alreev wins the battle!”
“Shoot. We are almost next, ” I grumbled.
“Seats A-99 and A-100 come on up!” I watched the battle. The black-haired boy sped around the arena, and the blue-haired guy aimed an arrow at a random spot and let go. The arrow hit the wall, and the speeding person stopped. He stabbed his sword at the blue-haired boy.
“Rey Agrawal wins the battle!” The siren said. “Seats B-1 and B-2 come up!” We walked up to the arena. We then shook hands. Grace flew in the air and shot three arrows at me. It didn’t hit me, but I felt weak. I tried to shoot her with my fireballs, but nothing happened. She had used the power of draining other people’s abilities. She shot me with an arrow, and it hit me.
