Chapter 16: Who's Doom?
“Ohh! That was nice to be free-” Sam called. But I guess the giant was faster. The giant tried to turn around to see where the noise came from, but hit a rock and sat down right on top of Sam, “MMMMMFF! Why so STINKY?!”
“Huh,” I laughed. The giant sat up and looked in the hole. I couldn’t see Sam’s reaction, but I can tell he was annoyed,
“Oh my GIANTS! How dare you sit on me!” Since the giant didn’t understand words, he just plucked him up with two fingers and studied him, “LET GO OF ME!” For the whole time, I realized Jonah and I weren't doing anything. We ran to help Sam. But Veronica and Rey were faster. They used their powers and zapped the giant. The giant howled in pain, but at least he dropped Sam.
“That stinking giant!” Sam muttered. The giant stood up. We attacked it with all our might. Though it was kind of hard. My fireballs just bounced off him. Sam’s stabbing with his poison sword kind of, um, broke it. Rey’s arrows broke when it touched the giant’s skin. Jonah’s abilities to hypnotize and teleport did nothing. Veronica’s speed and controlling the elements just tickled the giant. We were, somehow, losing. The giant can attack us, but we can’t attack him. Just unfair. And just like that, we were on the ground, all the might in us left. We have lost. As we laid down in the hard ground, I spotted an eye. No. Two eyes. The creature walked closer and I can make out a shape that looked unmistakably a human. A human. Servant of the giant? Please no. But when the shape came closer, I could see a sword, just about to stab the giant.
“Do you see-” I got cut off.
“Yes! The person! I see it, ” Sam hollered, “We are saved!” The person stabbed the giant, and somehow defeated it single-handedly.
“Thank you!” Jonah said.
“No problem. My name is Kingsley Zhang,” Kingsley introduced.
“My name is Chris”
“Sam”
“Veronica”
“Jonah”
“Rey”
“Hello, you guys better leave or else they might catch you.”
“Ok, thanks, Kingsley,” Rey thanked him. As we left the cave, Sam and Veronica had weird faces.
“What is that look about?” I asked.
“Doom,” Veronica said.
“The prophecy?” Jonah perked.
“Yes, the prophecy,” Rey said.
“Veronica and I are going to die from a knife. Or a sword. Or something shiny,” Sam said. An astonished face came from Jonah and I.
“Wo-wo-wo- wait a minute. When are you going to die?” Jonah asked.
“Approximately four days, seventeen hours, twelve minutes, and twenty-four seconds,” Sam counted. I gulped. Four days and they die?
“Wait. The prophecy said see one’s doom not two!” I sputtered.
“Well, not my fault,” Veronica countered. Silence. We were now walking towards our waiting Pothenisutha. The creatures were just sitting there, innocent. Just like nothing happened. If they understood English, they would not have been so happy. In the next four days and seventeen hours, eleven minutes and some seconds, there will be two Pothenisutha roaming around, without an owner. That thought must have occurred to all our other friends because I saw them looking at the Pothenisutha. At least, I thought so. What stood in our faces were the two worst enemies (plus a bunch of other monsters I have never had the time to learn their names) I have ever seen in my life: Grace and Orgos (and a bunch of other monsters I have never had the time to learn their names.)
“Hello you people. You are not leaving today. Because I will be killing you all. Right Orgos?” Grace smiled.
“YeAH! TWEY TWIED TO KWILL MOIE!!! I NEED TO KWILL THWEM!” Orgos screamed in confidence. Apparently, Orgos’ tooth hasn’t grown back yet. Then it reminded me. The tooth. And the wind capsule. In my pocket. Or is it? I didn’t have time to think about it. Because the next thing I know, they were attacking us. With a leg like this, I didn’t have the power to do anything. Sam had to watch over me while he fighted. The other monsters on the island also started fighting. And they were fighting for Orgos and Grace. Meanies. As they were fighting, a hoard of monsters started coming for Sam. No. They are coming for me.
“Sam!” I yelled on the top of my lungs. But he didn’t hear me. He was busy defending off another monster. I guess I have to kill these myself. But how? If I hit the smoursori, they will just grow bigger. But what if they hurt themselves? Like, whenever they attack, I dodge out of the way, and they hit a rock? It is worth a try, at least. I wearily eyed the monsters. They were about to attack. I just need to scoot out of the way. But I first need to lure them near a rock. I waddled towards a nearby rock and waited for them to attack. It went as planned. The monsters ran up to me and I scooted out of the way. They hit the rock with a loud slam, but that just angered them more than before. Guess what? They did not die either. There were too many monsters here. “Jonah! Sam! Anybody who can teleport, teleport us to San Francisco!” I yelled. There was no possible way to defeat these monsters. Jonah and Sam both heard me, the boys quickly grabbed on to us while all the smoursori were surrounding us.
“Quick!” Someone yelled.
“Yeah, Sam!”
“Alright, Alright, I’m teleporting!” Sam said. We teleported to San Francisco and we hit the ground near a tree. A couple of people stared at us in disbelief. A second later, Jonah and his group teleported on top of us. Now those people were staring like we were aliens. One person even went on his phone and did something. I bet he was calling 911.
“RUN!” I whispered-yelled to my friends. We stood up and ran. Ran to somewhere we don’t even know. First, I was in the lead, allowing my friends to catch up and follow me, then it was Sam, Veronica, Rey, and lastly, Jonah. We ended up near a hotel, and we stayed there for the night. With the money Hack was “allowed” to lend me, we could only stay one night. Man, he stole a lot of money from me!
******
Four days and only four days left. We stayed at the hotel for a night, then we left for the Golden Gate Bridge. I didn’t know which bridge it was in my vision, but it looked like the Golden Gate Bridge. So we went there. When we called a taxi, I felt something I hadn’t felt before. The wind capsule. Where I was sitting, it felt like a hollow spot. I took it out, and I saw a hole. It was shaped like a tooth. Orgos’ teeth. I took Orgos’ tooth out, but it wasn’t shaped like it was in the hole. Did that mean I cut off the wrong tooth? But what is the difference without the tooth and with the tooth? I decided to not take my chances.
“Mr, can you please drop us off here?” I said. My friends looked at me crazy.
“But the money you gave was to go to the Golden Gate Bridge.”
“Keep the change, and please drop us off.” The guy found the nearest exit and made a stop near a trashy and smelly place. I said my thanks and we left the car.
“What now Chris?” Sam asked. I pulled out the capsule and showed them the tooth and the bottom of the capsule.
“Don’t say that we need to do that again until we find the right tooth,” Jonah said.
“I believe so,” Rey mumbled.
